Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, and several prominent members of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State have reportedly convened for a strategic meeting in Spain ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently aligned himself with the coalition, was notably absent from the meeting.
Those said to have attended the strategic gathering include the Executive Director, Projects and Infrastructural Development, South South Development Commission, SSDC, Chief Marcus Nle Ejii; Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Mao Ohabunwa; and the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.
While the specific agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, the gathering is believed to be connected to preparations for the January and February 2027 general elections.
Wike had recently endorsed Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as his preferred choice to succeed Fubara as governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had announced that campaigns for the February 6, 2027 gubernatorial elections commenced on Tuesday, September 8.
