Zidane settles football’s GOAT debate with unexpected verdict

France head coach, Zinedine Zidane, has identified former Argentina captain Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer in the history of the sport.

Zidane made the declaration while responding to questions about the ongoing GOAT debate and whether Messi deserves to be regarded as football’s greatest player of all time.

The Real Madrid legend, speaking about Messi as quoted by Marca, said, “If anyone still has doubts about the GOAT debate, honestly, that person does not belong in football society.”

At 39, Messi is regarded as the most decorated footballer in the history of the game.

The Inter Miami forward has secured all the major honours available to him, including the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

Messi recently announced his retirement from international football with Argentina after guiding his country to a second-place finish at the World Cup, following their defeat to Spain in the final.
