Aminu Tambuwal’s former Sokoto governor’s media office has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to keep its campaign pledges rather than focusing on those who disagree with its ideas.

No moral politician will join the APC, Tambuwal said in a Saturday speech, accusing those leaving the ruling party of being driven by “stomach infrastructure.” He maintained that APC membership was unappealing due to the nation’s economic problems.

APC spokesman Felix Morka responded by dismissing Tambuwal’s comments and calling him a “notorious and vainglorious party defector.” Morka said that his own history of political defections was motivated by self-interest and accused the previous governor of hypocrisy.

Tambuwal’s media team issued a statement on Monday denouncing Morka’s comments as an effort to quell criticism and divert attention away from the deepening economic and security challenges.

“Rather than addressing pressing issues like economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a tactic that reveals its desperation and leadership failure,” the statement read.

In order to silence the opposition and advance one-party rule in Nigeria, Tambuwal’s team charged that the APC was used intimidation, inducement, and coercion.

“The APC’s portrayal of recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians, who are enduring unprecedented hardship,” the statement continued.

Citing growing unemployment, greater insecurity, and rising inflation that has forced businesses to close and pushed millions into poverty, it attacked the administration’s economic management.

In addition, the statement upheld Tambuwal’s legacy by highlighting his “unassailable record of selflessness and patriotism” and his status as an APC founding member.
