The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Anambra State has denounced Works Minister Dave Umahi for publicly lauding Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his advancements in the state’s infrastructure.
In a press conference led by Dr. Valentine Oliobi, the state publicity secretary, the party said that the minister’s remarks undercut the efforts of the party he represents, which is also putting forth candidates for the November gubernatorial election.
In addition to touring some of Soludo’s projects on a working visit to the state to flag off a federal road, Umahi came to the conclusion that the governor would not face any opposition in the upcoming election due to his outstanding job.
Speaking at a news conference in Awka, Oliobi characterized Umahi’s remarks as flattering and intended only to appease the governor. He insisted that Soludo had failed the people of Anambra State in terms of governance.
He said: “Ndi Anambra are not carried away by minister Umahi’s sugar coated words for Soludo. In-between the lines of those so-called praises are nothing but a diplomatic way of expressing disappointment, especially as the governor’s newly constructed roads are already washing away.
“What he saw in Anambra is not impressive but underwhelming. His remarks were not a validation of success, but a subtle reminder that Anambra is not where it should be. It is amusing that Soludo and his cohorts are yet to get to read the handwriting on the wall.”
The party further stated that Umahi’s remarks, even though they were untrue, showed a lack of discretion on the part of the minister, who is aware that he is employed by the APC and that his party is running for governor alongside the man he is applauding.
“Minister Dave Umahi’s unguided utterances were in support of his business ally, Prof. Soludo. Umahi and Soludo have a joint interest in most of the federal road construction in Anambra.
“But unfortunately for Soludo, the days of empty promises are over as Anambra can not reinforce failure by renewing unfulfilled contracts through another tenure in office.”
Oliobi stated that the state will vote Soludo out in November after citing a number of his shortcomings. Poor road contracts, a weak economy, inadequate security, and many other issues.
