The All Progressives Congress, or APC, chapter in Zamfara State has urged military authorities to make sure that tragedies like this do not jeopardise the ongoing war against banditry and has called for a comprehensive investigation into the recent unintentional airstrike in order to prevent a recurrence.

Over 20 people were killed in the tragic airstrike, including vigilantes, members of the Community Protection Guard (CPG), and some residents of Tungar Kara village in the Maradun Local Government Area, the party said.

Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC’s publicity secretary, released a statement in which the party expressed its deepest sympathies to the state administration and the people of Zamfara, especially the families of those who perished.

“We pray Allah to accept their martyrdom and grant their families the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he added.

The party also praised the state’s continuous military efforts to fight banditry, pointing to recent achievements by Operation Fasan Yamma, which reportedly destroyed over 25 terrorists and several bandit hideouts in Fakai, a camp enclave owned by infamous bandit kingpin Bello Turji.

Many bandits have been forced to leave their hiding places due to the stepped-up military onslaught, and Turji is reportedly on the run, according to the APC.

“This operational strategy is quite impressive and should be sustained with the support of all peace-loving citizens.”
