APC, Osun govt clash over Governor Adeleke two-week absence

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been accused by the All Progressives Congress, APC, of resigning from office and leaving the nation for more than two weeks without telling anyone or properly transferring authority to his deputy, Kola Adewusi.

In a statement released Tuesday in Osogbo and signed by its spokesperson Kola Olabisi, the APC called the governor’s extended silence and abrupt departure “abnormal.”

The state’s leadership void was another issue brought up by the party.

“It is wrong for Governor Adeleke to disappear without notifying the citizens or the legislature. We need to know who has been running Osun in his absence,” the party said.

The party characterized the development as mysterious and opaque, claiming that the governor had not been present since his unsuccessful attempt to switch to the opposition APC.

“Did the governor duly transmit power to his deputy, who is constitutionally covered to temporarily step into his principal’s shoes?” the APC queried.

The message went on to say that inquiries concerning Adeleke’s whereabouts have proliferated around the state in motor parks, public areas, and commercial buses.

Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokeswoman, quickly responded and confirmed that the governor had traveled to the United States to attend his nephew David Adeleke’s (also known as Davido) wedding.

Additionally, Rasheed slammed the APC’s remark as political scheming in a statement obtained by ZINGTIE on Tuesday.

Since taking office in November 2022, Governor Adeleke has not taken a formal vacation, according to her spokesperson.

“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed said.

Additionally, he invited the APC to participate electronically or in person at the wedding ceremony.

“His Excellency is inviting the opposition party to share in the joy of the Adeleke family.”

Rasheed reassured the populace that Prince Kola Adewusi, the governor’s deputy, is in close communication with him and oversees government operations when he is away.

“The governor has again chosen to make this trip a short one so that he can return promptly to attend to crucial state functions,” Rasheed added.
