Senator Muhammad Ali Ndume recently cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about the early wave of endorsements ahead of the 2027 presidential election, to which the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded.

Borno South Senatorial District Senator Ndume had voiced his disapproval of what he called the president’s hasty endorsements.

In an interview on Sunday night’s Politics show on Channels Television, Ndume stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost reelection to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC despite receiving the support of 22 governors from the PDP, the then-ruling party, in 2015.

He said, “It is too early to start endorsing President Tinubu for 2027. The President should be wary of people who are rushing to pledge loyalty or push endorsements. These things may not be sincere, and they can distract him from focusing on the important work ahead.”

Public discussion regarding a potential response from the ruling party was sparked by the senator’s remarks.

The APC has refuted any official warning or disciplinary action against him, nevertheless.

Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s director of publicity, responded to the situation by saying that the party respects Ndume’s right to voice his thoughts.

The senator is still regarded as a valued party member, he continued.

“Senator Ndume is a respected member of the APC. He has made comments in the past, some of which were critical of the party, but that doesn’t mean he is acting against the APC. This party believes in internal democracy and freedom of expression as long as it does not go against our core principles,” Ibrahim told the BBC.

He underlined that members of the party are encouraged to offer constructive feedback.

He went on to say that these kinds of contributions are crucial to bolstering democracy within the party.
