Aregbesola reveals why ADC lost FCT elections: What’s next?

Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has explained the reasons behind the party’s losses in the November 25 Anambra State governorship election and the February 26 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections.

Aregbesola made this revelation during the ongoing ADC national convention on Tuesday.

He acknowledged that the party faced internal struggles, including weak funding and an unprepared structure, which contributed to its inability to secure victories in both elections.

“Our party participated in the 2025 Anambra State and the February 26 FCT local government elections,” he said.

“We did not succeed for several reasons, including the fact that our opponents made use of the power of incumbency, the monetization of the electoral process, and the abuse of state power.”

“On our part, we faced challenges like poor funding and a generally unprepared structure,” he continued.

“However, we have learned from these experiences and are now fully prepared for the upcoming Ekiti and Osun state governorship elections,” Aregbesola added.

ZINGTIE had reported that during the FCT Area Council elections, the APC secured 5 out of the 6 seats, leaving the final seat to the PDP.
