At least 96 homes were destroyed by unidentified gunmen in Gyenbwas, located in the Langai district of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State.
According to reports, the attackers invaded the area and openly made away with food items, mattresses, livestock, and other valuables.
Commenting on the tragic event, Alhaji Yakubu Umar, the traditional head and Madugun Langai, confirmed that bodies of victims had been found following the assault.
He stated that, in addition to the two people killed on Monday, another body was discovered the next day, raising the number of casualties to three.
The local community pointed fingers at members of the Berom ethnic group for allegedly carrying out the attack—a claim the accused group has denied.
Umar expressed deep sorrow, saying, “We have never experienced such atrocities. The perpetrators burned working equipment, clothes, foodstuffs, and other items. They also looted goods worth millions of Naira. We live peacefully with everyone and that is why we are very surprised.”
He appealed to the Mangu Local Government and the Plateau State authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and provide emergency support to affected residents.
