Soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade successfully prevented a bandit assault and eliminated one suspected attacker during a targeted mission in Ussa Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The mission was carried out under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a and was based on reliable intelligence indicating the movement of armed groups around the Fikyu area in Ussa, according to a post shared by security expert Zagazola Makama on Sunday through his verified X account.

Zagazola detailed that the soldiers positioned themselves in ambush near Gafar village around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports about possible plans by the bandits to strike in the vicinity.

“Troops laid an ambush along identified crossing points of the bandits in the area. At about 032100A May 25, troops sighted some bandits moving towards Gafar with possible intent to attack,” the report stated.

The ambush team reportedly opened fire on the suspects, killing one instantly, while the others fled into the nearby forest.

Following the confrontation, troops carried out a sweep of the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with a motorcycle believed to have been taken from a civilian.

Sources confirmed that the seized items have been secured by the military for further investigation and action.
