Twenty-one cooperative groups in Osun State, consisting of artisans and farmers, have been empowered with over N240 million to boost socio-economic activities in the state. The cooperative societies, drawn from Olorunda, Osogbo, Atakumosa-West, and Ilesa-West Local Government Areas, received funds ranging from N2.5 million to N10 million each.

Speaking at the cheque distribution ceremony held at Ataoja’s palace, Oja-Oba Osogbo, Mr. Olusegun Akintade, Vice Chairman of Agboluaje Kajola Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to empowering individuals and communities. “Our major objective is to stay clear of politics, empower our people, and boost socio-economic activities in our various communities,” he said.

Mr. Akintade urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously to achieve economic liberation and reduce poverty in society. “Poverty does not discriminate between politicians and the masses; hence, our decision to remain apolitical,” he added.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Political and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Biyi Odunlade, disclosed that the state government has expended over N2 billion to cooperative groups to boost economic development through microeconomic activities. He expressed the government’s commitment to partnering with groups and individuals working to alleviate poverty.

Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Minister of Internal Affairs and patron of the foundation, commended the founder’s efforts to address poverty. He emphasized that the government alone cannot eradicate poverty, and collective efforts are necessary to achieve this goal.
