John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in Anambra State’s November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election, has characterized the assassination attempt on former presidential candidate Peter Obi in Edo State on Monday as “disheartening and condemnable.”
Nwosu stated that the assassination attempt “poses a serious threat to the principles that underpin our democracy.”
Nwosu stated in a signed statement released in Awka that assaulting Obi is akin to assaulting all Nigerians with good intentions who uphold civility and peace, and who support the right of every individual to engage freely in political activities.
He said: “Our politics should not include anger, threats, or violent actions. Democracy works best when people share different ideas, talk things through nicely, and treat each other with respect not by being aggressive or breaking rules.
“Political differences should never lead to actions that put people’s lives at risk or cause problems for the country’s stability.
“I ask the right security groups to quickly and firmly look into this event, find those responsible, and make sure they are properly punished.
“Accountability is important to stop similar things from happening again and to bring people’s trust back. He said that Nigeria needs to move past violence and adopt a political culture based on maturity, tolerance, and respect for democratic values.”
