The Benue State House of Assembly has approved a resolution urging Governor Hyacinth Alia to suspend Dr. Grace Adagba, Chairperson of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), for six months.

In addition to the suspension request, the legislature instructed the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Denen Aondoakaa, to halt any further disbursement of funds to the board.

The resolution followed a motion raised by Hon. Bemdoo Ipusu, who told the assembly that Dr. Adagba had repeatedly ignored invitations from an ad-hoc committee set up by the House to probe alleged irregularities at SUBEB.

Ipusu noted that Dr. Adagba responded in writing to the House, asserting that the legislature had no legal authority to investigate contract-related activities at the board. He further accused her of attempting to hinder the assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibilities.

Other lawmakers who contributed to the debate voiced strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of the SUBEB Chairperson and unanimously supported her immediate suspension.
