According to ATBU’s spokesperson, Zailani Bappa, “it has never done that before and will not start now.” The university also accused a newspaper of “crossing the line of good journalism ethics” in reporting on the issue.

However, evidence obtained by Premium Times showed that ATBU attempted to issue statements of results for the illegal programme, with the university approving results from departmental to senate level and setting up a committee to regularize the students’ results.

In a statement, ATBU claimed, “We therefore, want to assure our various stakeholders that ATBU will continue to stay firm in the pursuit of quality and legally acquired education and will not be deterred from its focus of attaining a world-class university status.”

The controversy surrounds the FCAHPT’s admission of over 80 candidates into a postgraduate programme without NUC approval. Despite NUC’s rejection of the affiliation, ATBU’s internal documents revealed plans to certify the students
