Atiku clears the air on if he will run for 2027 presidency

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has stated that he is unsure of his plans to run for president in 2027.

The statement was made by Atiku, who has run for president six times, in an interview with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie for the television program Untold Stories that has not yet been broadcast.

A few days before to his speech, he had declared the creation of an opposition coalition with the goal of overthrowing the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

When questioned about whether he would run for the presidency in the upcoming election, Atiku said, “I don’t know because there has to be, first of all, a viable platform, more than any other time in the political history of this country, particularly since the return of democracy.”

The former vice president did not, however, exclude out running in the 2027 election, citing the necessity of having a capable leader in Nigeria.

“I have not seen Nigeria in dire need of, you know, an experienced and credible leadership than this time.

“We had a similar, you know, what would I say, merger in 2014. About four of us or is it three? We all ran for president and one of us emerged, and we all supported the one who emerged, and he won,” he said.

There are rumors that Atiku might back Peter Obi, the former Labor Party presidential candidate, and Mallam Nasir El-rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, in the 2027 election.
