Paul Ibe, media aide to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to clarify how seven new Toyota Prado SUVs reportedly handed to youth leaders for election mobilisation were funded.

Ibe made the call in a reaction on X after APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel announced that he had presented the vehicles to selected youth leaders, while expressing appreciation to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support.

Israel said the vehicles were intended to support the party’s election mobilisation efforts, adding that the APC would “deliver polling unit by polling unit.”

Ibe urged the First Lady, Israel and the APC to reveal who financed the vehicles, where the money came from and the identities of those who received them. He also questioned whether public funds or government assets were involved in the distribution.

He further called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the funding arrangements and establish whether they comply with campaign-finance regulations.

“The Nigerian treasury is not the APC’s campaign purse, and the Presidency must not become the ruling party’s election-financing machinery,” Ibe said.

He maintained that removing the social media post would not end demands for transparency and accountability, stating: “Deleting the post cannot delete the demand for accountability.”
