On Friday, October 18, the Jigawa commissioner of special duties, Auwal Sankara, was arrested and detained, as confirmed by the Kano state Hisbah board.

Sankara was arrested for reportedly having an extramarital affair with a married woman, according to The Punch.

The Cable further reported that Sankara was caught red-handed with the married woman in an unfinished structure, according to Abba Sufi, director general (DG) of the Hisbah board.

He claimed that following a number of reports about Sankara, tracking enabled the arrest.

Sufi said: “Yes, it is true, we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa commissioner, with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him.”

Sankara is a strong supporter of Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, based on the images posted on his well-known Facebook page.

Badaru was the governor of Jigawa state just before becoming Nigeria’s current defence minister. The minister is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sankara served as the governor’s senior special assistant (SSA) for new media under Badaru.

The SSA position in Nigeria is assigned to someone who will help a certain leader in a particular field.

Sankara was named commissioner of special duties by Badaru in July 2022.

According to the Blueprint newspaper, Sankara was vetted by the state House of Assembly and unanimously approved by all members.

Sankara’s Facebook page states that he was married in April 2015. However, it is not immediately apparent how his marriage is doing.

Auwal Sankara’s brother is Nafiu Danladi Sankara, a former candidate for the House of Representatives on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sankara Nigeria Limited’s managing director (MD) is Nafiu Sankara.
