Marcelo, a former Real Madrid star, has revealed his personal pick for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
The Brazilian made the remark following a legends match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, which ended in a 3-3 draw on Saturday.
In the charity fixture, goals came from Raul, Toni Kroos, and Julio Baptista for the Madrid side.
After the match, Marcelo was asked who he believes deserves football’s most prestigious individual award this year.
“Who should win the Ballon d’Or? Cristiano Ronaldo,” Marcelo responded, as reported by Madrid Zone.
Ronaldo, who netted 25 goals last season, once again finished as the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese forward also led his national team to the final of the UEFA Nations League, where they are set to face Spain.
Despite his strong performances, Ronaldo is not considered a frontrunner for this year’s Ballon d’Or — a fact Marcelo is aware of.
Top contenders include Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Ronaldo himself recently stated that the award should go to a player from the team that clinched the UEFA Champions League title.
