The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Zamfara State branch has denied claims made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Dauda Lawal is funding bandits in the state.

In a statement released on Saturday, Haliru Andi, the party’s publicity secretary, called the accusation “baseless” and charged that the APC was responsible for the worst banditry in Zamfara.

He said that villages were regularly attacked and that money intended for security was misappropriated under former Governor Bello Matawalle.

“No political party in the history of Zamfara has done more damage to the state than the APC. The party and its leaders openly dined and negotiated with bandits, granting them legitimacy while the people of Zamfara buried their loved ones,” the statement read.

Andi further said that rather of addressing insecurity, APC leaders met with bandit leaders.

He claimed that despite inheriting a state in crisis, Governor Lawal has subsequently taken action to restore trust, outfit security forces, and create the Community Protection Guards, or CPG.

The PDP insisted that the governor is still dedicated to putting an end to banditry in the state and encouraged citizens to reject the APC’s assertions.
