Basketmouth explains why he shaded Wizkid over Davido’s wedding

Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, also known as Bright Okpocha, has given an explanation for why he mocked Wizkid despite appreciating Davido’s wedding’s social media impact.

When Davido and Chioma got married on June 25, the comedian lamented how hard it was to promote his Canadian tour since everyone was so focused on the wedding.

He continued by saying that because everyone was preoccupied with Davido and Chioma’s wedding, not much attention was paid to Wizkid’s issue on social media.

The singer’s admirers took exception at his criticism of Wizkid and vowed to “cancel” him.

Regarding the Backstage Banter exchange he had with Isi Ijewere during Basketmouth’s Canadian tour stop in Toronto, he clarified that his jab at Wizkid was merely “a marketing technique.”

He said, “Wizkid is my guy…that was a marketing technique. But I knew it was going to be edgy.

“I knew it was going to hit people. I knew they were going to get upset and they did exactly what I wanted them to do. It worked.”
