Kylian Mbappe, a forward for Real Madrid, gave an explanation for why he declined to adopt Luka Modric’s No. 10 shirt.

In front of an enthusiastic Santiago Bernabeu crowd on Tuesday, Mbappe was formally introduced by the La Liga powerhouses.

The 25-year-old left Paris Saint-Germain and is now a free agent.

Like he does for France, Mbappe donned the no. 10 shirt at PSG.

However, he chose to wear the number 9 shirt at Real Madrid, allowing Modric to wear the number 10 for what may be his final campaign in Spain.

As of late, Mbappe has maintained that he never asked for the shirt.

“I never said I wanted this number… it’s Luka Modrić’s number.

“I’m honoured to play with Modrić. He’s a champion, a Ballon d’Or and I respect him so much,” he said at his unveiling.
