Armed gunmen on the Isa–Shinkafi route in Sokoto State shot and killed Yusuf Isah, 35, on Tuesday night.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the attackers, who were reportedly loyal to wanted bandit leader Bello Turji, barricaded the road and started shooting at passing cars, according to a post on X by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama. Isah was struck by a bullet and instantly passed away.

Makama was informed by a source that the bandits arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on commuters at random, causing fear in the neighborhood.

As soon as Operation FANSAN YANMA troops reached the location, they engaged the outlaws in gunfire.Later, the assailants escaped into the neighboring woodland.

A Canter truck and a motorcycle thought to be the bandits’ were retrieved by security personnel during the operation.

Since then, the area has seen an uptick in military patrols to protect commuters.
