Following a recent tribunal ruling in Abuja, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia in Benue State, has promised its followers and members that it will take all legal steps to regain its mandate before the Court of Appeal.
Recall that several LG chairmen, including Agatu, Kwande, Ushongo, Vandeikya, Konshisha, Otukpo, Ado, Ohimini, and Apa, were dismissed by the tribunal located in NBA House in Abuja.
However, in response, Benjamin Omale, the APC’s polarized State Chairman, promised that their “stolen” mandate will be recovered.
He made this promise to reporters during a news conference on Tuesday at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi.
Omale advised party loyalists and chairmen of local governments to maintain composure and carry out their constitutional duties.
“There is no cause for alarm. The party will explore every legitimate and constitutional means to reclaim her mandate at the Court of Appeal,” Omale stated.
On his side, the Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Benue State, Orwough Maurice, condemned the verdict as a miscarriage of justice.
He called on all impacted local government chairmen to keep focused on their tasks and avoid any type of panic.
“Justice can only be delayed but never denied,” Hon. Orwough declared.
He also gave the public his word that ALGON would use every constitutional and legal option to get the tribunal’s ruling overturned in the appellate court, working with the state governor and the APC leadership.
The party’s leadership urged members to maintain their resolve throughout the ongoing court battle.
