Simon Ekpa, a Biafra activist, declared on Monday that he had given the Federal Government back all the medals he has earned for Nigeria.
He has been calling for the independence of Biafra.
This was revealed by Ekpa in a statement that was shared on his official X account.
ZINGTIE recalls that Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, was a former Nigerian athlete who won several medals.
The medals, according to Finland-based Ekpa, were returned to the Nigerian government on Friday of last week via a logistics company and were handed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria, on Monday, July 15.
He claimed the action was taken to further condemn Nigeria.
“I have successfully returned the medals I won for Nigeria during my athletic days.
“The medals were delivered today (Monday) to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.
“With this development, every tie between me and Nigeria both in sports, spiritually and physically is hereby cut off completely.
“The medals are as follows: 2003 African Junior SILVER MEDAL; ExxonMobile track and field GOLD MEDAL; ExxonMobile track and field SILVER MEDAL; Other medals have nothing to do with Nigeria, so I retain them,” he said.
Ekpa had previously renounced his citizenship in Nigeria in 2022.
