Mr Simon Ekpa, a Biafra campaigner, declared on Friday that the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, or BRGIE, has been formally recognised as an entity for Biafra Independence by the US Department of Justice, suggesting that he is not giving up on his cause.

This occurred simultaneously as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, expressed openness to potential communication with the Nigerian government.

Ekpa maintained a week ago that peace will return to the West African region with the proclamation of Biafra Independence.

Using his official X handle on Friday, Ekpa—also known as the Prime Minister of BRGIE—said the US Department of Justice’s decision was a positive move.

He said the US Justice Department authorised all documents seeking legitimacy.

“Following the approval of the United States Department of Justice, the Biafra Republic Government In Exile BRGIE is now an officially registered entity with the United States Department of Justice,” he said.
