Singer Burna Boy has set a new record for the highest number of albums by a Nigerian artist to appear on the US Billboard 200 chart.
He was previously tied with Wizkid, with each having four albums featured on the chart.
This week, Burna Boy’s latest album, ‘No Sign Of Weakness,’ entered the Billboard 200 at number 200, bringing his total to five charting albums.
The album sold only 8,800 units in the US, marking the lowest debut position for any Nigerian album on the chart.
A recent change in Billboard’s rules, which now only counts sales and streams from within the United States, played a major role in the album’s modest chart performance.
Previously, the chart also included streams from outside the US, allowing Afrobeats artists to benefit from their large followings in Nigeria, Ghana, the UK, and other countries to achieve higher rankings.
