At the recent Ministers and Leaders Conference in Texas, Bishop David Abioye gave a stirring sermon called “Maintaining the Fire on the Altar.” His speech emphasised how important it is for churches to help their members develop spiritual fervour and fortitude.
The bishop spoke about the worrying trend of people going to church without showing true remorse, especially those who had sinned. He said he couldn’t believe that some individuals might practise religion and still be spiritually unconnected.
In order to emphasise his views regarding the susceptibility of churches to evil forces, Bishop Abioye related a personal anecdote. He related an incident in which a man tried to do witchcraft in a religious environment while posing as a priest.
This person arrived at the chapel with a charm that was meant to hurt other people. But the charm magically disappeared from his finger as soon as he stepped onto the church grounds, preventing him from carrying out his nefarious plans. This instance demonstrated how God’s protective force is active in places of worship.
Bishop Abioye stressed throughout his teaching the need to foster spiritual fervour in churches in order to protect members. He urged a fervent awakening during services, arguing that a potent spiritual environment can ward off evil forces. The bishop’s observations encourage a more thorough comprehension of the spiritual processes at work in houses of worship and the significance of preserving a thriving religious community.
