The mother of three, through IVF, Alex and her white husband Rob welcomed their 2-year-old daughter, Pudge Pudge.
The couple claimed that Pudge Pudge’s appearance “surprised” them, particularly in contrast to their other two darker-skinned children.
”I was super surprised,’ Alex told Truly. ‘Her ears weren’t even dark. They were really, really white!”
Alex claimed that she receives “a lot of negativity” from both online and offline trolls because of their different skin tones.
Recalling one incident, Alex claimed that she and Pudge Pudge were shopping at the mall when a staff member stopped them, saying, “Something didn’t look right,” and threatened to report her to security.
“Rob ended up handling the whole thing for me and essentially telling her to leave us alone,” she said.
“I should be able to hang out with my child the way I want to!”
According to Alex, she has even been attacked by other Black people for being in an interracial relationship.
“I’ve seen people that appear to be black online that say I shouldn’t have that white man’s child, all kinds of things,” she said.
Additionally, it has been said that Alex “rented” Pudge Pudge as a “content baby” for social media.
In the end, she had a DNA test to confirm that Pudge Pudge was her child.
Because she was so white and we used IVF to conceive her—errors do happen—we chose to perform the DNA test, she said.
Since sharing their tale, the couple has gotten an overwhelming amount of support, despite some difficult times and backlash.
“As a black mom with a “white passing” child living in a primarily white area in Georgia, this happens every day,’ wrote one.
“Being followed to listen in on our conversations, asking where her mom is, suggesting I’m a nanny, etc. Keep your head up momma. Your family is beautiful.”
Another wrote, “I can understand people being confused, but being rude is crossing the line. This is a sweet and beautiful family!”
A third added, “People are so weird. They have no idea how mixed children work. You two are doing amazing. Don’t listen to the weirdos.”
