The suspicious deaths of four family members have left the people of Chatta village in Borno State’s Hawul Local Government Area in sadness.
Yakubu Samanja, his wife Esther Yakubu, and their two kids, Amos and Maryamu Yakubu, have been named as the victims.
The catastrophe may have been triggered by harmful fumes from a generator, according to locals.
Ibrahim Samanja, a relative of the victims, claimed that after banging on their door several times without receiving a response, he found the dead on Tuesday morning.
“I arrived there around 7am, I kept knocking and there was no response, that made me suspicious, so I forced the door open and I found them dead,” he said.
Although they were reached right away, local authorities and medical staff later verified their deaths.
Marama General Hospital received the bodies for additional examination.
The tragedy was characterized by the community as a significant loss, particularly since the family had not previously displayed any symptoms of illness or grief.
The lack of evidence of violence or struggle in the first investigations adds credence to the theory that generator fumes may have been the cause.
ASP Nahum Daso, a spokesman for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that inquiries are being conducted to ascertain the precise cause of death.
