Borno killings: Ndume raises alarm, appeals for military deployment

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the military to station troops in Kirawa and surrounding communities in Borno State, in response to a resurgence of Boko Haram activities.

His appeal follows an ambush carried out by insurgents around 3:00 p.m. on Friday along the Kirawa–Pulka route. The attack led to the death of a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) member and caused injuries to several travelers.

Expressing his concern over the situation, Ndume noted that security forces have been absent from the area since an attack last month on a Cameroonian military outpost in Kirawa, which resulted in the withdrawal of stationed personnel.

“It is very disheartening to receive a distress call that some armed Boko Haram terrorists laid an ambush on motorists and passengers along the Kirawa–Pulka road yesterday,” Ndume said.

“The victims were escorted by a few members of the Civilian Joint Task Force as there is no military escort due to the dislodgement of Cameroonian troops based in Kirawa last month. Unfortunately, one of our brave CJTF members was killed during exchange of gunfire. Many victims are nowhere to be found as I speak,” he added.

He stated that no fewer than six vehicles were destroyed by fire during the incident, including two Volkswagen Golf cars, a bus, and three trucks.

Ndume urged the military leadership to take swift action by sending troops to Kirawa and nearby areas to reestablish safety and shield the local population from ongoing threats.

“My people are now living in perpetual fear since the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops last month,” he warned.
