Due to allegations of stealing, Yusuf Alimi, the young man who stood in front of Peter Obi’s convoy during his 2023 presidential campaign in Lagos, has been placed under remand in Kirikiri jail.

Recall how Alimi became well-known in 2023 after the photo of him meeting Peter Obi went viral?

As Obi looked at him, Alimi moved to the front of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate with his arms spread, as seen in the photo.

was arraigned before Orege court in the Ajegunle neighborhood of Lagos on March 27, according a post posted on X on Monday.

The judge allegedly remanded him to Kirikiri prison and postponed his case until April 28.

However, supporters asserted that the boy was set up because he kept the money he received during the campaign.

Alimi was allegedly stopped by some men in the street on his way to work, according to the post on X.

He was taken to the police station by the guys, where he was charged with being one of the local thieves and fighters.

Human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore has taken notice of Alimi’s predicament and stated in a post on his X Twitter on Tuesday that the youngster is innocent.

He asked for the names of his lawyers and relatives, and Sowore promised to take him out of prison.

“Given the boy’s apparent innocence, immediate rescue efforts are necessary to remove him from prison; if anyone has access to his lawyers and family, kindly notify us at your earliest convenience.” Sowore wrote.
