Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Prof. Eunice Omonzejie as the new Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.

The announcement was contained in a statement released Monday night in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. He explained that her appointment, which takes immediate effect, came after the university’s Governing Council recommended three candidates, with Omonzejie emerging as the preferred choice

Ikhilor congratulated the new vice chancellor, urging her to bring her expertise and leadership skills to bear in moving the institution forward.

He said, “We expect her to deploy her wealth of experience and leadership skills in advancing the institution’s mandate of producing world-class graduates and driving research and innovation.”

Omonzejie, a seasoned scholar of French and Francophone African Literatures, has served for years in AAU’s Department of Modern Languages. She is respected as a prolific researcher and editor with groundbreaking work in African and Francophone literary studies, gender studies, and cultural studies.

Her scholarly contributions include Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews, French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters, and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa.

Ikhilor also highlighted her advocacy for women in academia.

“As former President of the AAU Chapter of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), the vice-chancellor championed mentoring, research, and advocacy for female academics and students,” he noted
