According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is ahead in the overall results of the Edo State gubernatorial election that was held on Saturday.

The Federal University of Technology Vice-Chancellor and Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, has not yet formally declared the poll’s winner as of the report’s filing.

In the meantime, the APC defeated the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, and the Labour Party, Olumide Akpata, in 11 of the state’s 18 local government areas.

Ighodalo received 247,274 votes, while Okpebholo received 291,667. Akpata received 18,737 votes.

In the state, the PDP candidate won seven LGAs.

The votes come from 4,519 polling units in Edo State and 18 Local Government Areas, totalling 2.2 million voters with permanent voter cards.

Godwin Obaseki, the incumbent governor of Edo State, will hand over control of Osadebe House to the election winner.
