Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former Northern Elders Forum (NEF) spokesman, has stepped down as President Bola Tinubu’s political adviser.
According to Daily Trust, presidential sources verified on Thursday that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed resigned approximately two weeks ago.
The article claims that Baba-Ahmed simply mentioned that his choice was made for personal reasons without going into further detail.
It was unclear if his resignation had been accepted by the presidency.
ZINGTIE remembers that in September 2023, Baba-Ahmed was named Special Adviser on Political Matters in Vice President Kashim Shettima’s Office.
There were times when Baba-Ahmed’s presidency was criticized, particularly by Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the current Minister of State for Defense.
When Matawalle stated that northern appointees must not keep quiet in the face of intimidation or misrepresentation of the Tinubu administration, it seemed as though he was aiming at Baba-Ahmed.
Baba-Ahmed’s criticism of Matawalle’s dismissal of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) as a “political paperweight” prompted the remarks.
The minister’s stance was a response to the group’s assertion that the North voted for Tinubu in 2023 in error.
