Citing a previous unfortunate occurrence involving his own security guard, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his demand that former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi notify him prior to entering Edo State.

Speaking at a recent press conference that was shown on Symfoni TV, Okpebholo made this clear and emphasized that he had also followed the same security procedures when he visited Benin City.

He related his story, saying that while Obaseki was governor, Inspector Akon, a police officer assigned to him, was shot dead at the airport gate as he was arriving at Benin Airport.

It is up to Obi to take or disregard the warning, he underlined, adding that his counsel is founded on security intelligence and historical occurrences.

In his words, “I don’t know which one is paining them. Is it because I said they don’t have shishi? Do they not say they don’t have shishi? So, why are they crying?”

“I went through the same process. I was advised when I came into Benin Airport by the then Commissioner of Police under Obaseki.”

“He said, oh, you are here? I said, yes, I’m here. He said, please remain at the airport. I ignored that advice, and I went out.”

“Inside the airport, at the gate of the airport, my policeman was shot dead right before my eyes, Inspector Akon.”

“I have security reports. I have advised the former Governor of Anambra State. If he likes, let him take it. If he likes, let him not take it. If he likes, let him dwell on social media. () It doesn’t concern me.”
