Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor, and Ngozi Odu, his deputy, were served with a notice of alleged wrongdoing by the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday.

The lawmakers asserted in the notice that the action was consistent with the Nigerian Constitution, according to Channels TV.

“In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and other extant laws, we, the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office,” the notice read.

There have been rumors of schemes to remove the governor, despite the assembly’s earlier denial of any attempt to impeach Fubara.

More to come.
