Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court Abuja has withdrawn his involvement in the action brought by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the Kogi Central District.

Following the customary court appearances, Justice Egwuatu said during Tuesday’s hearings that he had decided to step aside from the case.

He attributed his judgment mostly to the accusation of bias made by Senate President Godswilll Akpabio, the third defendant in the case.

According to information acquired, the development occurred because the Senate President had voiced doubts about the court’s capacity to handle the case fairly.

The case file would be sent back to Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, for reassignment to a different judge, Justice Egwuatu noted.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions was previously barred from pursuing disciplinary action against Akpoti-Uduaghan by an ex-parte order issued by Justice Egwuatu.

The Senate and the ethics committee were to refrain from “proceeding with the purported investigation” against her, she had requested the court would grant.

Akpabio and the female federal senator were at odds about seat arrangements. The lawmaker accused Akpabio of abusing his position and engaging in sexual harassment. She later received a six-month suspension from the Senate for her misbehavior.
