Popular Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore has praised Oby Ezekwesili, the former minister of education, for refusing to back down during her altercation with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, which was caught on camera and went viral.
According to ZINGTIE, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and Senator Nwebonyi, a member from the Ebonyi North Senatorial District, got into a violent argument verbally on Tuesday.
The altercation took place at an Ethics Committee hearing about claims of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
According to an interview on Channels TV, Senator Nwebonyi explained that the confrontation began when Ezekwesili called him a hooligan and told him to shut up.
In response, Sowore said on his official Facebook page on Wednesday that Nwebonyi’s actions implied that the upper legislative body should be abolished since it is “clearly a waste of resources.”
“Look at this individual’s behavior and explain to me why the Nigerian Senate should not be scrapped, as it is clearly a waste of resources to send unproductive representatives to a rubber stamp assembly.
“I commend Oby Ezekwesili for not backing down”, Sowore wrote.
