APC chieftain petition NJC against Osun judge over court order on LG election

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has demanded that the National Judicial Council, or NJC, look into state high court justice A. A. Aderibigbe’s issuance of a “controversial order” acknowledging vacancies in the state’s local government areas.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Monday, former legislator Oyintiloye made the call.

ZINGTIE recalled that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, or OSSIEC, had requested permission to proceed with the projected February 22, 2025 local government election from Justice Aderibigbe of the state High Court, Ilesa, on February 21, 2025.

In its ruling, the court acknowledged that there were open positions in each of the state’s 30 local government districts and ordered the OSSIEC to hold elections to replace them.

Oyintiloye ruled that the court order contradicted the February 20 recommendation of Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, that Governor Ademola Adeleke should not move forward with the election’s conduct.

Fagbemi had pleaded with the governor to uphold the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which reinstated the democratically elected chairmen and council members that had been struck out in 2022 by an Osogbo-based Federal High Court.

Oyintiloye, however, thought the order from Justice Aderibigbe was odd and insisted that it was issued in defiance of a legitimate ruling from a higher court.
