The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the removal of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination requirement for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education programmes in Colleges of Education.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, on Monday during the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.

Under the new admission guidelines, applicants will now only require a minimum of four O’Level credits in relevant subjects to qualify for admission into NCE programmes.

According to the minister, the policy adjustment is intended to reduce the administrative workload on JAMB.
