A Major Operation in Katsina Uncovered More Than Investigators Expected

The Katsina State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime, with the arrest of an alleged drug trafficker and the dismantling of a suspected armed robbery network operating in Funtua and nearby communities.

The Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the operations resulted in the recovery of illicit substances, weapons, stolen property, and cash.

According to him, police operatives apprehended a 22-year-old suspect identified as Aliyu Umar, popularly known as “Makami,” during a targeted operation conducted in the Jabiri area of Funtua Local Government Area on May 28.

He explained that the arrest followed credible intelligence reports linking the suspect to alleged drug distribution activities within the community.

Items recovered from the suspect included 38 Exol tablets, 28 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a knife.

“The suspect is believed to be a key member of a drug peddling syndicate operating in the area. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.

In another development, officers attached to the Makera Police Division successfully arrested three individuals suspected to be members of an armed robbery gang allegedly involved in phone theft, motorcycle snatching, shop burglary, and other criminal activities.

The suspects were identified as Salim Umar, 24; Yusuf Mustapha, 23; and Gaddafi Idris, 27.

Police said the trio was taken into custody on May 21 following actionable intelligence gathered by operatives.

A subsequent search conducted on the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of several weapons, including knives, machetes, scissors, and an iron pinch bar.

Other items recovered during the operation included mobile phones, SIM cards, charms, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Command stated that investigations are still ongoing to uncover the full scope of the gang’s activities and determine whether the suspects are connected to other criminal incidents within the area.
