On Thursday morning, panic broke out when a train coach became detached from its other compartments near the Ladipo stretch of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, causing a temporary stop in movement and creating confusion in the vicinity.
The event happened around 8:00 a.m. and lasted more than half an hour. The train, traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State toward Apapa in Lagos, experienced the sudden separation of its rear compartment.
An eyewitness named Oloruntoba Omodele described how the unexpected disconnection startled passengers and people close to the railway. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
“Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” Omodele recounted.
The Ladipo region, notorious for its dense traffic and frequent congestion, has had several transport accidents before, which continue to raise safety concerns.
It was reported that emergency teams quickly arrived to clear the site and control the traffic that had begun to accumulate due to the incident.
Though officials have not yet provided an official explanation for the mechanical failure, transport experts are calling for a swift inquiry and better maintenance practices, especially in busy urban areas like Lagos.
