Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023, has sent his one-term plan to the coalition for review, according to Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide.
Obi stated on Monday that he is open to serving a single term as president in 2027, according to ZINGTIE.
In accordance with the “unwritten power-sharing agreement” and the zoning concept, he said, any Southern presidential candidate who wins the next election must be ready to step down on May 28, 2031.
In the upcoming election, Obi, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai have joined forces to run against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) was chosen by the coalition on Tuesday to serve as the platform for its goals.
According to Yunusa, Obi presented his suggestion to the coalition.
“We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision. But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that. What Nigeria needs now are leaders with integrity,” Tanko said.
Even if the constitution does not guarantee a single term, he said, Obi feels that four years is sufficient to carry out his plans.
