The increasing number of killings and kidnappings in Otukpo, Benue State, has angered locals, who have taken to the streets to protest.
According to ZINGTIE, the protesters stopped major roadways while yelling, “We no go gree!” They demanded that the government and security agencies take immediate action to address the increasing level of insecurity.
The numerous attacks were bemoaned by one of the demonstrators, Daniel Oche, who called them a “constant recurrence.” In a startling admission, he also claimed that the community’s electricity is always turned off before to an attack.
“This has been happening again and again. We are not safe in our own homes. And have you noticed? NEPA (JEDC) always takes light before every operation. It’s like they don’t want us to see what’s coming,” he said.
The protest, which has attracted a sizable crowd, comes after many fatal assaults in the region. Many people have been forced to leave their houses due to the violence, and those who are left live in constant fear, according to the locals.
To control the situation, no security personnel have been sent in.
