The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in 20 out of the 23 local government areas in the local government elections held on Saturday in Rivers State.

The results were officially announced on Sunday in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Those who contested under the APC platform for both chairmanship and councillorship positions are known allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Among the LGAs clinched by the APC are Ahoada East with 84,125 votes; Akuku Toru with 63,593 votes; Andoni with 126,181; Asari Toru with 56,383; Bonny with 13,543; Degema with 61,536; and Etche, where the APC recorded 100,649 votes.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured wins in Obio-Akpor and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni (ONELGA) with 328,888 and 51,051 votes, respectively.
