BREAKING: SSANU, NASU begin 7-day warning strike

A seven-day warning strike has been declared by the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) in response to the 2022 nationwide strike. They are demanding payment for four months’ worth of salaries that have been withheld from their members.

Following a meeting over the weekend in Akure, the decision was included in the joint action committee resolution for the two unions.

This was revealed by SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim on Monday in Abuja when he read the meeting’s communiqué to reporters.

Since several protest letters and other correspondence with the Federal Government failed to result in the payment of the delayed salaries, Ibrahim said that the decision to start the warning strike was made as a last resort.

This came about as a result of the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) recent statewide rallies against the country’s high cost of living and the ongoing economic difficulties.
