On Thursday, President Tinubu addressed the rumors that he prevented new party registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

On Democracy Day, the president clarified the matter in a speech to the National Assembly.

He claimed that during his administration, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had never been asked to do so.

He said, “I have never stopped the registration of any political party.”

Additionally, Tinubu refuted claims that he was trying to establish a one-party system in Nigeria.

However, he claimed that if the All Progressives Congress, APC, turned away people who were now interested in joining the party, it would be engaging in political malpractice.

He greeted Delta and Akwa Ibom States new party members, saying, “you are all welcome to the progressives forum.”

Additionally, Tinubu declared that he would not assist rival political parties in organizing their homes, He said, “I have never stopped the registration of any political party.”
