Ambassador Oguntoyinbo, a candidate for governor in Oyo State running on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, has urged the National and State Houses of Assembly to designate particular duties for the nation’s traditional leaders.
According to Oguntoyinbo, this is essential since traditional leaders have the closest relationships with their subjects.
The PDP leader made this statement in response to Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, being the Chairman of the Oyo State Traditional Council.
According to ZINGTIE, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced Ladoja as the Chairman of the Oyo State Traditional Council on Thursday.
In response, Oguntoyinbo called on the National and State Houses of Assembly to change the constitution and give the traditional rulers distinct roles.
Traditional rulers will be in the best position to address insecurity in their territories, according to a statement provided to ZINGTIE by Oguntoyinbo.
He said, “I call on the National and State Assemblies to assign constitutional roles to the traditional rulers.
“Traditional rulers are the closest to the grassroots, have roles to play especially in checkmating the current insecurity pervading the country.
“The traditional rulers are in position to fish out bandits and other criminals in their localities, and giving them constitutional role will make them to function legally”.
