Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has reportedly lost his life after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack believed to have been carried out by suspected kidnappers.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Thursday along the Wukari axis of Taraba State while the former government official was travelling to Makurdi.

Although Prof. Salifu was said to have escaped from his attackers, he reportedly suffered gunshot injuries during the encounter.

He was immediately taken to a medical facility in Makurdi for urgent treatment but was later pronounced dead on Thursday night.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the attack remain sketchy as more information continues to emerge.

Security authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Attempts to obtain a response from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls placed to her phone were not answered.
