In separate attacks in Gwer West and Guma Local Government Areas of Benue State, armed intruders killed James Akase, a former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and three other people.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacks on Monday harmed a number of other people.

According to locals, the victims were subjected to coordinated attacks by armed attackers on rural settlements in their various areas.

Akase, a native of Tse-Defam in the Mba’akov Vengav neighborhood of Avihijime Council Ward, was slain in Gwer West allegedly while trying to go back to his deserted house to get food for his displaced family.

Residents had previously been forced to evacuate when attackers overran the community, according to sources.

In a phone interview, Victor Ormin, the chairman of Gwer West LGA, verified Akase’s passing and disclosed that another resident had been kidnapped that same day but had been freed after family members paid a ransom.

Three people were slain in two villages in a different incident in Guma LGA.

One of the victims, Bartholomew Ikornya, was shot and killed in Tse Ikpe Ago, which is situated along the Yogbo-Gyungu Aze road in Mbayer/Yandev Council Ward, and Gabriel Korlaga and one Kunde, both killed in Tse Kologa, Mbagune, under the Nyiev Council Ward.

According to local sources, the attacks left the impacted towns in a state of terror and forced many to relocate, while survivors sought medical attention at different hospitals.

Since CSP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer, had not returned calls at the time this story was filed, attempts to contact the Benue State Police Command for official confirmation were futile.
